Hi, I'm Thomas
I was born in Kiel, Germany, and I am a photographer and visual artist whose work begins with instinct and ends with ink on paper. I trained in analog photography and have never abandoned it. For me, the negative, the print, the object you can hold, are where an image truly becomes real.
My practice spans over two decades, including editorial, commercial, and fine art work. I am represented in Paris by Galerie Jean-Denis Walter, which has exhibited and placed my photographs with collectors across Europe and beyond.
Every collector print available in this shop is part of a limited, signed edition, produced to archival standards from original files or scanned negatives, exactly as they were meant to be seen.
Signature Series
Ongoing Since 1999: African Arenas
What began as a photojournalism assignment in Nigeria became a decade-long obsession with football as Africa lives it: on roadsides, in red-dust lots, beneath water towers, around the grand stadiums of the 2010 World Cup.
The series spans six countries and one indelible question: where passion plays, what does the arena look like?
The aerial photograph of Soweto, taken by accident from a rented helicopter on a Sunday afternoon, became its most recognised image.
